unbelievably so

I am so unorganized at this point in my life. I moved a good share of stuff here, but it is all in my truck — waiting for the rain to stop. Actually at this point (9 p.m.) I am too tired to think about unloading; too bad since the bed is all wet and things are going to be soaked. One thing about being tired == you don’t worry about much.
My dog watching gig really got me off kilter. Mainly because the people told me they were coming back yesterday, but came back today. I had moved all my stuff out Saturday morning — and cleaned what little mess I had made. Then I figured out they weren’t coming back. I suspected it when they paid me for nine days, but I thought that was just a bonus or mistake.
So I didn’t sleep much last night and did not have sufficient naps today. Drives always tires me out as well. A small factor was doing grad pictures. Not a big deal, but one more thing in the realm of things. I didn’t get much sleep, since I had to get up at 5 a.m. to let the dogs out. their schedule- bed at 8:30, up at 5 a.m. Me bed at midnight, up at 7 a.m. That didn’t mesh and since I don’t like cleaning up dog poop, dogs win.
I accomplished very little last week because of that, but I did make $400. I think I will by some fishing equipment and a Weezer CD
The Mighty Tigers are tearing them up. I forget the stat for the last thirty games, but they swept the Rockies this weekend. That was the fifth series they have one in a row. Best of all they are one game over .500. That is a little ironic considering they were suppose to be way above that this year.
The plus is they are just so close to first place. I am trying to listen to the radio to see how the WhiteSox are doing. Big series starts tomorrow against the twins — who have been red hot.
If I had internet I could be listening to it now. That is part of being behind. I forgot to lineup internet, so it looks like I will be without for a few days. If I do it right, I will be in the school town.
I have been ignoring summer. I need to do some things and I am not sure if I can stay focused. Around the house: replace the broken window;, paint the trim; cut the tree/weed down; and pack things away, incase I have a tenant next fall. the woman never called me back, but is still looking. The said mentioned internet is a good example. I new I needed to do things, but couldn’t find the time to line it up. I should have because the numbers to call would be 800 and I had some time at work to do it.
I finally found a station with the game on. I think it is neat how you can pick up Chicago station on am radio late at night. I am not going to last long
I went to the Middle School meeting. I need to say once more, my school is falling apart. We have the best resource the school could have retiring, she was the middle school teacher. Then we have a one-year teacher who just doesn’t get it. Every time I mention to someone the person needs some direction the response the person has been given all the direction in the world. I just heard that another teacher might not be with us much longer and the remaining teacher is a cold fish and has no interest in being a leader. Since it is suppose to be a team, the group can’t operate as individuals, as the high school did.
The absolute saddest thing is the new Middle School English is brand new and maybe 21 years old. She doesn’t have her masters. I don’t know if she is going to be any good, but she has just stepped into a hornets’ nest.

sleeping through

Didn’t nap today, so hopefully I wll be sleeping before midnight. I am on another field trip with the middle schoolers. shouldn’t be too bad since we have four+ chaperones for 20 kids. Plus they should be running all around and tired on the way home. Weather is suppose to be good so that is good.
The Tigers lose to the Cardinals…so the friends who root for them will come out of the coop. They say nothing until their team wins.
Next day
I am so glad we are on the brink of the last day.
Had an easy hard day today. Chaperoned a little field trip. It was one of those good ones where the kids are out of school, so those that go are not ones that have to, so the tend to be much better behaved. But it felt like a long day since it was so sunny.
One of the things that I really like is it reminds me that maybe the kids at my school are jerks. The jokes that I make in my school and get rude response from — got laughs from the other school. It reminds me of a story. I was talking to the math teacher. We were complaining about our kids and she said she was getting tired of the kids turning their head so they would have to acknowledge her when she drove by.
Looks like I am up late — The Tigers had a two+ hour rain d
time for bed, Tigers win woot woot

The flowers lose

The grass at the school home was mowed, removing the wild flowers. It’s too bad the guy can’t mow around the flowers — for my sake. It does remind me I need to figure out how to get to my lawn at the home town.
I am having trouble getting motivated to do the more complex things. I have written a couple poems, but a press release or the beginning of a musical is tough. I am having trouble sitting down and reading.
School is almost over. Thursday is the last day
The Tigers win another series, this one against Padres. I think that is four series in a row — and they really need to play like the devil (.666) for hopes of post season.
time to head back to the dog’s home

doing good

Two things happened today (Friday). Continuation for the eighth graders and in the middle school meeting a discussion of retaining students in the middle school.
It is clearly one of the problems of school. Moving kids on that have not passed their current year. There are reasons to do it, most often it is “because they are smart.” That is, if the kid would apply his or her self, s/he would have passed. That is probably true, but so what. Jobs/work is the easy to grab analogy in this situation. How many people have gotten a raise because, ‘they are capable of doing the work’ ? Ultimately the world is what we prepare students for. While I say we spend way too much time preparing kids to play baseball, it is clear to me that moving a kid to the next grade when they haven’t learned anything from the current one is doing a disservice for all.
Another reason they move a kid up is to keep them from shaving in fifth grade. That wouldn’t be the clinical term, but I don’t know the clinical term.
There is one kid at my school who I would guess has a 40 average across the board (enhanced by the fact that his mom took him on vacation the week before all his final projects were due) and they are moving him up because he is a big kid.
I have two thoughts on this. First — kind of mentioned already — how prepared are students if they haven’t learned anything. It’s not like these kids are going to suddenly going to catch up on their own.
The second reason to hold the kid back. Let’s start setting an example. If you want to spend all day making jokes, maybe you ought to see your audience getting younger.
The question is asked, “are we doing the student any good by holding him back?” depends if you want them to learn cause and affect.
The Tigers lost last night, hopefully they are back on track tonight, especially since Whitesox lost, but the Cleveland Indians just took a lead in the 11th. If they win, the Big Cats will have to win tonight to stay in third place.
Gratitude (3)
- I am grateful for the fact that bug bits don’t itch that long
- I am grateful for getting to watch the bratty kid, who lives next to me, take the garbage to the dumpster.
- I am grateful for there being a computer at the dog watching house
