I have really been sloughing off on this. I think it has a lot to do with access to computers. And even more to the ability to sit down and collect my thoughts into a post. The thing is I have had lots of thoughts. Like this school year is going well and I should be yacking it up on the kids.
Here is a story: On Friday I read: “Goldie Locks Has Chicken Pox,” By Erin Dealey to the second graders . My aide picked it out and it was a fun book. The second graders are a pretty smart group. In the book are other nursery rhymes/fables. The kids got most of them, which was great. In the book is the word ‘flock’ and I asked them if they knew it. They kind of knew the meaning, but I wanted to amplify the definition, so the kids that did not would know what it meant.
I also explained the euphemism of “Birds of a feather flock together.” I was explaining how that mean you group things with similar traits and to be a little silly I said: “You know how all librarians are beautiful.” They started laughing and I kept acting like I both didn’t know what they were laughing at or understood the fact that all librarians weren’t beautiful. Then I started flexing and saying that librarians aren’t all strong too. This made them laugh even more.
Then I asked if the town librarian wasn’t beautiful or strong. The whole time skirting the issue of me not being beautiful or strong. It was funny and great way to end the week.
I think it might actually be the best group of kids k-12 in all the years I have been at the school. It’s weird, since I started in 2005, this is my third year — tenure in March, but I have worked in four school years. I am already losing track of time.
I have been slacking today. I packed some, but I need to start writing the play.
I didn’t ride my bike either, which I should. I am exercising as the Tigers play like crap.
. –> The Big Cats are just around the edge at the end. Cleveland lost tonight, but they are only two games away from cinching the AL Central. Of course the yankers won again. Or more to the point another team folded in late innings. So the Tigers are basically out of it, but it would be nice if they didn’t play so mediocre.
there are a few high lights now — including this game. Magglio Ordonez is hitting .357 and has gone three for four tonight. He might be the microcosm of the team. He comes up with no one on, but gets on base and the guys who follow can’t move him along.
They came back last night against Kansas City, maybe they can do it again tonight. The Detroiters have three outs left. If they lose, the magic number will be one for the AL Central and three games for the Wild Card.
One of my plays is being put on tonight. It is the school where I started. This would be the 14th play — if I would have wrote it, but I did not and they are using one I wrote 12 years ago. I was told when the play would be — o say two months ago, but they have not done anything since. I thought they might invite me. they didn’t even ask me any questions about the play. Nor did the current director ask the woman who is directed the play 12 years ago. I didn’t like working with the woman, when I did write a play for her, I am guessing I wouldn’t like her on an older play that was already put on.
Tigers lose and Maggs ends the night going four for five.
Time to think about writing a play.
