I am not sure what is going on with my friend’s computer — I think it is filled with spyware again. A year ago they had to take it in to be worked on. The weird thing is she doesn’t use the internet, so it isn’t like she should need much protection.
More weird than that is she isn’t sure if she has internet or not. If she does, she doesn’t know her password. Fortunately I have an iMac, so anything this computer is putting on my usb memory doesn’t translate. I am not sure if there is anything, since the library and school computer systems never show a problem.
This is my last full day here. Tomorrow I head back, stopping in Buff of Low to had dinner with a friend.
My back is hurting. It gets stiff from sleeping on a bed and then it was tender on Monday — when I did something that strained my upper back. I have been sleeping on the floor since then, which seems to eliminate the overall stiffness, but not the area that I strained.
Another lunch date today, with the guys I used to hang out with when I lived here. Might see a Mud Hens game tonight, though it is suppose to rain — scattered showers.
The Tigers lost last night, I think. I went to bed after it was something like 7-1. It’s frustrating. Not so much that they lose or even that they give up so many runs, but that they don’t take advantage of their chances. I think they had runners on each of the first three innings and two of the innings were runners on first and second. The guys who do the clutch hitting are the ones who got on base, so there wasn’t anyone to knock them in. They didn’t give the score much, so I am assuming the Indians were winning. The place we had dinner (50 cent tacos) had both games on. When we left the Tigers score was 0-0 and the Indians/Twins game was 3-3. I listened on the radio to the Tigers’ spiral down at my friends house.
The Tigers killed the yankers on Monday night, so that was fun. sTODDgy Jones wasn’t needed for the save, since the score was 16-0.
The weather has changed a couple times. It is up in the 90’s again. Fortunately somewhat cool at night so sleeping isn’t too bad. It was a little stuffy last night, but I turned on the ceiling fan. I don’t know if it is the relaxed nature of being here, or the Loratadine or something else, but I am sleeping about 10 hours a day. Loratadine is supposedly non-drowsy. I have often thought it just might be I get sleepy around things I am allergic to, in spite of taking the Loratadine.
Enough of this — I will take it to the library and post and see if the Tigers did lose or not.

away from home

I’ve been away from the computer — or enough so I can’t post much. I have been on the road for most of the time that I have been away.
In my trip to Toledo, I stopped in Cooperstown to visit the Hall of Fame and then on to southern Ohio to visit my mom and sister. With the two stops included — it was 33 hours on the road. It also included a nap in my truck.
Busy here in the library with people hovering over computers, I thought most of the kids would be in school, but it appears that is not the case. In my hometown and school town this wouldn’t happen, since most of the kids work. Maybe these kids do too, but not during the day.
The Detroit Tigers have dropped down in the standings in the last few days — but they have beat the yankers two of three games. I just checked the standings. While they haven’t really started to move on the Indians — Seattle has lost a couple and so have the yankers, so the Tigers are only four off the pace for first in the wild card race. Still would be easier to win the AL Central.
I am going to the game tonight and it would be great if they won; partially because I haven’t been at a game that they won on the last five years. Looks like it is going to be a nice night, a little cool as the evening progresses, but still nice. It was a great day today. There is a chance that big things start tonight
sTODDgy Jones got a save in the game last night, so he is four games away from 300, be nice if he could get within three tonight!
With Cleveland playing Minnesota (who are red hot) and the Tigers playing the KC Roayls in the next series, there looks to be a good chance to move up. Though when I get my hopes up…things fall down. !
Looks like we are going to see another Mud Hens game tomorrow. They have won their division for the third year in a row, and when playoffs start will be trying for the Third Governors Cup in a row. Ironically the last team to win the Governors Cup was Buffalo.
Gratitude (3)
- I am grateful for summers off
- I am grateful for neighborhoods with big trees
- I am grateful for the fact the Tigers are in the pennant race, in spite of all the injuries.

- walk = have taken a few walks — not real exercising, but it does make up for all the time I spent sitting on my bottom in my car.
out on the lake

I received my school info today and it kind of indicates that things are not so good. One thing is they didn’t included a schedule, so I don’t know when I am teaching k-5, not that it mattes a lot, but I hope they have a schedule. I head the guidance counselor who is in charge of that took another job. Maybe the counselor didn’t quit, but I think she has.
A second thing that was bad is they listed people doing things that I don’t think they are doing — like said mentioned guidance counselor was a class advisor, and her class graduated.
Then — it is only two weeks before school starts — they don’t know the name of some teachers. I take that back, they know, but on some of the forms the band teacher is just listed as ‘band teacher’ and not his name — which is on other forms.
My body is tired. I kayaked for about an hour and then I rode my bike too. On the lake, I saw a loon and when I was padding by alittle island I saw a critter that I have no clue what it was — I think it was an otter, but it could have been a martin (I don’t know). As I was paddling back I was asking myself why I didn’t do this more often this summer.
My upper body is sore from the kayaking and my legs are tired because — though I didn’t ride long– I rode up some high hills (for me).
The Tigers won and moved within half a game of first place by beating the Cleveland Indians. San Diego won, so they are still four games out of the wild card chase. So realistically at this point they need to think about AL Central first place
Jair Jurrjens up from Double A pitched a great game and got his first major league win. Todd Jones got his 32nd save of the year, and the 295th of the year. So there is still a chance sTODDgy will get his 300th next Monday.
One of the big moments was when Joel Zumaya came into the game after being off for more than 90 games. He had surgery on his finger. Not only was he smoking the ball, he only worked a third of an inning so he is available tomorrow. That is exciting.
On top of all that the Yankers lose to Anahiem 18-9.

A Tiger Night Off
August 21, 2007 at 1:58 am | In Blog Babble, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, desire, k-12 | No CommentsA Tiger Night Off
dream: I had this weird dream last night. I was in college, but the setting was my k-12 school. My advisor/office secretary was my k-12 schools new secretary. The stress of the dream was it was time to graduate and it dawned on me I had never gone to my psychology class.
I tried to go to my psychology class, which was in the old building of the University of Toledo, and couldn’t find. The only class that seemed to be operating was a quiet room with a couple people taking a test. I was clear it was summer time, when most schools have about 1/12th the number students.
So I go to the secretary and she is nice, but she was somewhat distracted — with her summer duties. She wouldn’t help me find the book I was looking for. It was a situation where I knew she had no idea where the book was or could be, but I wanted her to help me find it
At the end of the dream, I had to go back to school —- seemingly a day later. So I pull up to the school, which is now at the University of Toledo, and I realize I have to go through a llama farm. There is the secretary, fussing around; it seemed like she was doing the same thing she was doing the day before, when she was too busy to help me. This time she tells me to go up to the office and she will help me. When I get through the llamas I ended up in my k-12 library and it dawns on me — I am the librarian, I don’t have to return the book right now, I can just renew it.
This was a weird dream to me for a couple reasons. Mainly because I don’t remember my dreams much, and certainly not as much as this one. The llamas — I have no clue what that is about.
The middle ground is the University of Toledo. This has happened in my dreams before, roaming the halls looking for a class or a person. Often it involves me seeing places I am very familiar with — like the post office — then finding a ’secret’ room next to it. I guess there is a small chance that this is possible, since through the basement is an underground passageway to the boiler room. I’ve never seen it, but heard about it.
The obvious aspects about this dream is the fact I kind of frittered my summer away and now I need to scramble to end the summer and start the school year. Also, I am attracted to the secretary and I wanted her to help me, just so I could spend some time with her.
Once I got through the llamas I woke up.
Irony of ironies is I was talking to someone from my school town and out of the blue the person told me that the secretary is a bit trampy. I kind of suspect this because she is in her 40’s and has a tramp stamp on her back
The Tigers were off, s they didn’t screw anything up. Indians too, so the remain the same in the AL Central (well the Twins lost a game), but Seattle won, so there is another half game down
