Darn the novel

I was about out. As in a nap. I couldn’t read anymore, and watching two guys in space figuring out how to turn nuts left and right wasn’t keeping me away from a nap! No Baseball (All*Star Break), no Tour de France (rest day)

Then I had an idea… well an expansion of an idea. The beginning will set the tone for the book, as it should === with the mom and daughter in an argument. So I got up and wrote it down. That led to writing other stuff, like a few more notes and then playing with OmniOutliner. A program, as the name would indicate, that lets you create an outline. Ironically I had read about it and thought it was something you could link to my word processor: Nisus Writer Express. Maybe you can, but I didn’t figure it out, but in the mean time I used the program to add up some notes and ideas….

But what I originally came up with was some philosophy. The daughter wanting to have more freedoms, she is now 13 after all. And the mom wanting her to not grow up too fast. Both will express issues with “the divorce”

I like that, maybe it should always be “the divorce” like the name of a boat or something; to be shortened to: TD.

A really good thought I had is to do the journal over a course of a year; starting the day after the girl turns 13. She thinks the birthday means she is older and should have more freedoms. The course of a year can have certain things that I might not think up on my own, or in an orderly manner. Like playing softball, summer job (baby sitting), summer activities (i.e. buying a revealing bathing suit), etc. The first, right after the birthday is Easter vacation which, because of TD, they are not going anywhere, but staying home.

dirtmunk.jpgI just came up with a joke for the mom… I went for a bike ride and ended it by going down to the lake near my house. Along the rode was a towel, in good shape, just the kind of thing that if the mom picked up… the daughter would abhor. The joke— Hey I left the underwear that was there.

In doing the research yesterday, I stumbled upon a blog where a woman is keeping track of a Novel in Progress. She is procrastinating as much as I am

tigers.jpg Detroit lost yesterday, so they didn’t get to 60, but I read something where they have a better record than they did in 1984 when they started with something like a 40-7 record.

I think I need to track down Juan, my traveling companion. We are leaving in one week, and I haven’t heard from him.

Listening to the Toasters through Archive.org

Irony: I keep playing with the blog, putting new categories in and so on, when I also don’t send it to the blogger search engines, so there is only one person reading this, but I kind of think of it like a diary for myself; which is going to be one of the themes of the novel…I want to have the characters go back and re-read things they have written and comment on it. And to wonder if the other is reading their journals…
